I’ve been playing Rainbow Six Siege off and on for years now, and it still gives me that heart-pounding intensity no other shooter quite matches. The slow, strategic gameplay, the sound design, the satisfaction of clutching a round, it’s just so good. And now, with Rainbow Six Siege crossplay finally here (well, sort of), it feels like the game’s gotten a fresh shot of energy.
Let’s break down how it all works.
|Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay
Rainbow Six Siege is cross platform, but it depends on what platform you’re playing on.
If you’re on PlayStation or Xbox, crossplay is fully supported between consoles. That means PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S players can all jump into matches together. I’ve got a few friends on PlayStation while I’m on Xbox, and now we can finally squad up without needing to jump through hoops or buy a second console.
You just need a Ubisoft Connect account, and once that’s linked across your platforms, you’re good to go.
|What About PC Players?
Here’s where it gets a bit tricky.
PC players are not in the same crossplay pool as console players. Ubisoft decided to keep these player bases separate to avoid potential imbalances like the edge PC players might have with mouse and keyboard. So, even though Rainbow Six Siege supports cross-progression between PC and console, matchmaking is kept distinct unless you intentionally switch pools.
If you’re on a console and have your crossplay settings enabled to allow it, you can be placed in PC lobbies, but only if you’ve specifically set that in your options. Otherwise, console players are only matched with other console users by default.
|Cross-Progression Makes Things Even Better
One thing I love is game has Cross-progression fully supported. So if you bounce between platforms (I’ve gone from Xbox to PC and back), you don’t have to start over. Your operators, skins, and R6 credits all carry over, no matter where you’re playing. That’s a huge win.
The only thing that doesn’t carry over is your ranked MMR. You’ll have a separate ranking for PC and console, which is honestly fair considering the skill and control differences. But yeah, if you switch platforms and hop into Ranked, you’re starting from scratch there.

|How to Set It All Up
Getting crossplay and cross-progression working is actually pretty simple:
- Create or sign in to your Ubisoft Connect account
If you’ve played any Ubisoft game before, you probably already have one. - Link your Xbox or PlayStation account
Just head over to the Ubisoft Account Settings and connect your platforms. - Enable crossplay in your settings
In Siege, go to Options > General and toggle the crossplay setting. - Choose your matchmaking pool (important!)
On the Ranked screen, press the indicated button (Triangle/Y) to switch between PC Pool and Console Pool.- If it says “Matchmaking is currently set to PC Pool,” even on a console—you’ll be matched with PC players.
- To avoid that, switch to Console Pool so you only match with PlayStation or Xbox players.
- Double-check your Crossplay Matchmaking settings
Scroll to the bottom of General Settings and make sure your Crossplay Matchmaking is set to Consoles Preferred or Off, depending on your comfort level.

I’ve wanted Rainbow Six Siege crossplay for ages, and while it’s not perfect, it’s a huge step forward. Console players can finally connect without worrying about who owns what, and with cross-progression, switching platforms doesn’t mean starting from scratch.
Whether you’re jumping back in after a break or grinding Ranked with your crew, Siege is a perfect game to play with your friends. I’m just happy I can finally squad up with my console friends and drop into some tense, tactical action, no matter where we’re playing.
