For more than twenty years now, One Piece has been one of the most loved manga and anime in the whole world. Fans have been sailing with Luffy and his crew through countless islands. The crazy battles and emotional moments, all chasing after the legendary treasure, the One Piece. But with over 100 manga volumes and more than a thousand episodes, a lot of people can’t help but ask, when will One Piece end?
|What Has Oda Said About the Ending?
Its creator, Eiichiro Oda, has actually talked about the ending quite a few times over the years. Back in the early 2010s, he said the story was only around halfway done. Then in 2020, he surprised fans when he said he’s planning to finish One Piece within the next five years. That really got fans hyped and a little sad at the same time, cause it meant the end was getting close. But now it’s already 2025, and still we’re wondering, when will One Piece end?
Here’s the thing. In 2022, the Final Saga started. Oda himself called it “the beginning of the end,” and since then, we’ve seen big secrets starting to come out. Stuff like the truth about Joy Boy, the Void Century, and of course, what the One Piece really is. But if you know Oda, you know he likes to take his time and tell every part of the story in detail, so even the Final Saga might still go on for a few more years.
So honestly, If we go by what Oda said and how long arcs usually take, it could finish somewhere between 2027 and 2028. That sounds about right since it fits with his earlier plan to wrap up before 2030. This also gives him room to tell everything he wants.

|Why It Might Take Longer
One more thing to remember is Oda’s health and the insane schedule of making manga every week. He’s already taken some breaks here and there, which is fair, cause he’s been at it for so long. If he needs more breaks in the future, that could stretch the ending even more, and no one would really mind if it means he stays healthy.
For fans, the thought of One Piece ending is really emotional. On one side, it’s exciting to finally see how everything ends and what the One Piece actually is. But on the other, saying goodbye to Luffy, Zoro, Nami and everyone else is gonna be hard for sure.
So while no one can say for certain, it really looks like the answer to when will One Piece end is somewhere in the next three to five years. Until then, let’s just enjoy every chapter and every episode left, and keep sailing along with the Straw Hats on this amazing journey. One piece has also officially announced season 2 on Netflix. Check out the small tease below.
Fans of Netflix’s live-action One Piece have a lot to look forward to as Season 2 is coming soon. After the first season won over audiences with its fun take on Luffy and the Straw Hats, filming for the new season wrapped up in early 2025.
Season 2 is expected to cover some exciting arcs like Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, and Drum Island, where we’ll finally meet fan-favorites like Tony Tony Chopper and Smoker. Netflix even teased a glimpse of Chopper’s adorable look and Zoro’s new swords. If all goes well, the new season should hit Netflix sometime in 2026.
