Elon Musk, the billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX, is now setting his sights on the gaming industry. His latest venture? An AI-powered game development studio under his company xAI. And in true Musk fashion, he’s promising to “make video games great again.”
During a recent demo of xAI’s latest model, Grok 3, Musk showed off its capabilities by whipping up a simple version of Tetris in Python. Not stopping there, he put out an open call for developers:
“We’re launching an AI gaming studio at xAI. If you’re interested in building AI games, please join xAI.”
From Cheating in Diablo to Running a Game Studio
This announcement comes just weeks after Musk admitted to account-sharing in Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV to boost his in-game progress. In a chat with top Diablo player NikoWrex, Musk casually admitted to letting others play on his account—something that’s widely frowned upon in gaming circles.
But controversy has never stopped him before. Now, Musk wants to shake up the industry, claiming modern games have been ruined by “woke politics” and diversity initiatives. He believes AI-driven game development will put the focus back on gameplay and innovation.

Not surprisingly, reactions to Musk’s gaming ambitions are all over the place. Some are excited about the idea of AI-powered games, while others are skeptical—especially given his history with layoffs and cost-cutting measures.
