After months of speculation, GTA 6 is officially set for a Fall 2025 release. However, one major question remains: Will the GTA 6 PC version launch alongside consoles, or will players have to wait once again? Given Rockstar Games’ history of prioritizing consoles, PC gamers are understandably concerned.
Rockstar’s History of PC Delays
Rockstar has a pattern of delaying PC releases for its major titles:
- Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5): Launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PS4 and Xbox One in November 2014. The PC version arrived 19 months later in April 2015.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: Released for PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018. The PC version launched over a year later in November 2019.
These delays suggest that Rockstar prefers rolling out games on consoles first, then optimizing them for PC later.
Speculations and Predictions
So far, Rockstar has only confirmed GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in Fall 2025. Many industry experts predict the PC version could arrive in late 2026. Rockstar may follow this approach to resolve issues post-launch and deliver a polished PC version.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Speaks on PC Release
In a recent interview with IGN, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the absence of a PC version at launch. When asked if skipping a PC release was a mistake, he acknowledged that PC gaming is “a much more important part of what used to be a console business.”
Zelnick also revealed that PC sales can contribute over 40% of a game’s total revenue. He cited Civilization 7 as an example, launching on PC and Nintendo Switch at the same time. This suggests Take-Two recognizes PC’s importance, but it remains unclear if Rockstar will change its usual release strategy.
Will PC Gamers Have to Wait Again?
PC players are used to waiting for Rockstar’s games. While delayed releases often result in better optimization, they also reduce initial excitement. With PC gaming growing rapidly, Rockstar might reconsider its approach. However, past trends suggest another delay is likely.
Zelnick also mentioned that while Rockstar is confident in a Fall 2025 launch, a delay into 2026 is possible. Take-Two’s stock recently hit an all-time high, showing strong investor confidence. Only Rockstar can confirm if GTA 6 will break tradition. Until then, PC fans may have to brace for another long wait.
