Is Space Marine 2 Crossplay

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is one of the biggest launches of the year, and a lot of players are asking the same question before jumping in: does it have crossplay? After all, nobody wants to find out they can’t squad up with their friends just because they’re on a different platform.

Yes, Space Marine 2 does support crossplay. But, as with most modern games, there are a few details worth knowing before you dive in.

|Crossplay in Campaign and PvE

If you’re planning to tear through Tyranid hordes in the story campaign or join up in the co-op PvE Operations mode, you can do that with anyone, whether they’re on PC, Playstation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. That means if you’ve got one friend on Steam and another on console, you can still roll as a squad of three Space Marines without any trouble.

This is a big deal because it removes the platform barrier completely for co-op play. All you’ll need is the invite code system (more on that below), and you’re good to go.

|What About PvP?

Here’s where things get a little different. Space Marine 2 has a competitive multiplayer mode called Eternal War, and in that mode, crossplay is limited. PC players will only face other PC players, while console players will be matched against each other.

Why the split? Balance. Mouse and keyboard naturally offer a different kind of precision than a controller, and while consoles have aim assist, Saber Interactive decided to keep things fair by separating the pools. It’s a smart move if you’re the type who hates feeling like you’re at a disadvantage before the match even starts.

|How to Invite Friends

Inviting friends across platforms is pretty straightforward. From the main menu on your Battle Barge, you can open Edit Squad and then generate a code in the Invite Menu. Share that code with your friends, and they can jump into your squad no matter what system they’re on.

There’s no permanent friends list system in Space Marine 2, so you’ll need to generate a new code each time you play together. It’s not the most elegant setup, but it works fine once you get used to it.

|Crossplay Toggle Option

If you’d rather not play with people outside your platform, maybe you want to avoid longer queue times, or you just prefer sticking to console/PC lobbies, the game does let you turn crossplay off in the settings. Just remember that disabling it could mean slower matchmaking, especially in PvP.

So, is Space Marine 2 crossplay? Absolutely, at least for campaign and PvE co-op, which is where most players will probably spend their time. PvP stays separated for balance reasons, but that’s not really a bad thing.

At the end of the day, you’ll still be able to team up with friends across platforms and rip through the Tyranid swarm together, which is exactly what most of us were hoping for.
