Is there going to be a PS6? Sony’s already working on the next-gen console, and yep, it’s the Playstation 6. They haven’t said everything officially yet, but enough info has come out to get people excited. Between leaks, insider talks, and a few hints from Sony themselves, it’s pretty clear they’re going big on this one.
|When could the PS6 actually come out?
First off, let’s talk about when it’s coming. If you look at how they usually release consoles, the PS6 will probably come out around 2027 or maybe 2028. The PS5 dropped in 2020, so that kinda lines up with their usual 6 to 7-year cycle. There was this one game, Blade Runner Time To Leave, that was being made for next-gen consoles and it was targeting 2027 before it got cancelled. That got people thinking. Also, a former PlayStation exec, Shuhei Yoshida, kinda hinted that 2028 might be more realistic. So, somewhere in that range seems right.
Now about what it’ll have inside. Sony’s gonna stick with AMD, just like before. Some tech leaker guy said the chip for the PS6 is already done and is being tested right now. Apparently, it’s gonna be faster, have better graphics, and even better ray tracing. Basically, games will look insane. Maybe even load super fast too. It’s not confirmed yet, but that’s what the leaks are saying.

There’s also a chance Sony does what Xbox did with the Series S and X. Like, maybe they’ll release two versions of the PS6, one powerful and expensive, and one cheaper with lower specs. Some even think they might bring back a portable PlayStation, which honestly would be awesome. The PSP was great and people still talk about it.
Sony also made it clear they still believe in local gaming. Like, actually playing games on your console without relying on cloud stuff all the time. They said cloud gaming is interesting, but not really ready to take over yet. So yeah, physical discs and installing games ain’t going anywhere. Though you’ll probably see more cloud features too, just not as the main way to play.

And yep, backward compatibility is expected to continue. Since PS5 can run most PS4 games, it’s kinda expected that PS6 will do the same for PS4 and PS5 titles. That’s good news if you already spent a lot on your digital library. You won’t have to start over.
